We are extremely honoured to announce (if you haven’t heard already) that we have received the 2012 JUNO AWARD for Best Blues Album!! (Canada’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards) The whole JUNO weekend was an amazing experience – from Matt & Steve playing in the Juno Cup to our JUNOFEST gig to winning the award and performing at the Juno Awards Gala to co-presenting the Artist Of The Year JUNO with Sam Roberts to Feist; to hanging out with the likes of Blue Rodeo and Ron McLean at the Warner Music after party! Phew!!!
We are just getting back to normal now . . . you can see our acceptance speech in a video on the Ottawa Citizen website HERE
Also, you can see us presenting with Sam Roberts and introducing Simple Plan HERE . . . William Shatner called us “The Sultans of Swamp R&B” – how cool is that?
Huge thanks goes out to all of you for your support over the past 4 years – we couldn’t have made it as far as we have without you all! Much love and thanks to our co-producer Ken Friesen, our agent Brian Slack, Holger Peterson and everyone at Stony Plain Records as well as our friends and families who support us the most! HI again everyone,
We are incredibly excited, honoured and humbled to announce that we have been nominated for a 2012 Juno Award for Blues Album Of The Year! For those of you unfamiliar, the Juno Awards are Canada’s equivalent to the Grammy Awards! We are extremely grateful for this honour and very excited to attend all of the events happening around the Junos and more excited by the fact that they are being held right here in our hometown of Ottawa! We thank you all for your ongoing support – with out you, the MonkeyJunkies, we would still be sitting in the corner at Irene’s Pub. Huge thanks to CARAS and all on the Juno panel/jury for choosing us and we wish good luck to our fellow nominees who are all good friends – David Gogo, Suzie Vinnick, Harrison Kennedy and Bill Johnson. The Juno Awards take place in Ottawa, ON March 31st and April 1st, 2012.
We were very excited to play 5 shows with our pals JJ Grey and Mofro in late January. We opened shows for them in Toronto, Ottawa, Boston, Philadelphia and Falls Church, Virginia. The shows were fantastic! We had a lot of fun playing in front of their fans and making new MonkeyJunk fans in the process. It was our first real foray into the US and thanks to JJ, Madison House Management and Joshua Knight of Monterey International, we got the opportunity to open these shows and we appreciate it very much. We really enjoyed our time hanging out with the band and crew as well. They were very hospitable and treated us very well. Thanks again to Chris, Aaron, John, AC, Farrell, Trube, Dennis, Art, Todd and JJ. We also had the opportunity to visit our pal Bill Wax at the Sirius XM satellite radio headquarters in Washington, DC. Bill is the program director of the BB King’s Bluesville channel and had us come in to record some songs live to be broadcast at a later date. The facilities there were amazing – very cool studio and we had a blast recording 1 new song and 4 others. Stay tuned for where and when you can here them!
This year we were nominated for 7 Maple Blues Awards (Canada’s national awards program for the blues music industry). The awards ceremony took place at Koerner Hall at the Royal Conservatory of Music In Toronto, ON on Monday January 16th, 2012. We are very honoured to announce that we won 3 awards!!! We took home the first award of the night for Electric Act of The Year (3rd year in a row!); Matt won for Drummer Of The Year (2nd in a row); and we won the award that means the most to us – Recording Of The Year for our latest release TO BEHOLD! We would like to say congrats to all nominees and winners . . . thanks to all of you who voted and the nominating/voting panel . . . thanks to the great hosts, the organizers and producers, the Maple Blues Band and all involved – a great time was had by all!
Below is a video recap of the event

We have embarked on a 5 1/2 week western Canadian tour that started last Wednesday in Sault Ste Marie, ON. We played at the Algoma Fall Festival at the Water Tower Inn and despite our late arrival, we started the show on time and had a great kick-off to the tour. Thanks to the folks from the festival for having us, the great crew that made it all happen smoothly and to the enthusiastic crowd/all the new CD owners! We appreciate the support . . . Show #2 happened in Winnipeg, MB and we had one of our best shows in months at the Times Change(d) High and Lonesome Club. It is a great room with a great vibe and we had a full and appreciative crowd . . . and their Mexican food was amazing!! Now we’re in Swift Current, SK doing a blues in the schools program at Maverick School – a great alternative high school here in Swift Current. One more day and then on to Alberta we will go. Stay tuned for the updates here and on facebook and twitter too . . .
thanks for stopping by – hope to see you out on the road . . .
